Rainfall warning in effect for St. Albert area

City could see up to 75 mm of rain by Friday

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for St. Albert, Sherwood Park and Edmonton, noting as much as 75 mm of rain could fall by Friday.

The warning was issued Wednesday afternoon at 1:43 p.m. after the city had spent the day in a downpour.

Environment Canada said a Pacific feed of moisture, combined with a low pressure system, would bring long episodes of rain that should come to an end on Friday.

The federal department noted heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible, and residents should be prepared for possible winter conditions at higher elevations.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
