RCMP investigate second arson in Morinville this month

The Morinville RCMP is investigating a second arson incident this month after a tool shed was intentionally set on fire on Monday. At around 4:20 p.m.

The Morinville RCMP is investigating a second instance of arson this month after a tool shed was intentionally set on fire Monday.

At around 4:20 p.m., the Morinville RCMP and Morinville Fire and Rescue responded to a tool shed fire at the Rendez-Vous Centre at 9913 104 Street in Morinville.

A shopping cart full of newspapers and clothing was pushed against the back of the shed and a suspect or suspects had lit the contents on fire, causing damage to the shed.

The Morinville RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in solving this crime.

If anyone saw someone pushing a grocery cart near the railway tracks on 99 Avenue or 104 Street in Morinville during the time of this incident they are encouraged to contact the Morinville RCMP.

The fire did less than $5,000 in damage to the shed.

The RCMP and fire investigator continue to investigate.

This is the second arson incident this month after a string of fires were set around 8:45 p.m. on May 4.

Morinville RCMP was alerted to fires leading from the RCMP detachment area to the railroad tracks behind 101 Avenue.

The fires were determined to be arson.

The suspect left the scene on foot, running east of 107 Avenue in the open green space.

The RCMP is asking members of the public to check their surveillance cameras and let police know if they saw anything unusual that could help with the investigation.

Officers are working with the local fire department and fire investigators on this crime.
