For Amy Whalen, the Human Resources Management Graduate Certificate offered at Red Deer College was exactly what she was looking for in order to advance her career. “I looked at other institutions, but the program at RDC is designed for me,” says Amy. “This new program is what I wanted and what I needed.”

Amy and her family moved to Sylvan Lake from Fort McMurray four years ago. The Newfoundland native works full-time as a Program Assistant at Red Deer College, but wanted to go back to school and pursue a new career.

The one-year program is designed for degree holders who are seeking a career in the human resources field.

“The program is all online except four weekends a year when I go to the Donald School of Business.

I love the flexibility of it.

It’s a shorter period of time to complete, and I can still work and be at home with my kids in the evening,” she says. “As a mom working full-time, I still have to get my kids to hockey and dance, so it’s nice to be able to come home in the evenings and be with them. I don’t have to take time away from work or from my kids to complete this program.”

Amy has a powerful reason for coming to RDC, and we all have our own unique and equally important motivations for pursuing post-secondary education. Perhaps it’s to follow a passion, to pursue a career or to retrain for new opportunities.
