A shooting in the south parking lot of Century Casino in St. Albert on Wednesday sent one man to hospital and triggered a lockdown at the Sturgeon Community Hospital's emergency department as a precaution.

St. Albert RCMP said the shooting happened at roughly 1:44 p.m. and the victim is in stable condition. The police investigation is ongoing.

A media statement from the RCMP Thursday said police determined early in the investigation that this was an isolated incident and there was no risk to the general public.

The RCMP is looking to speak with people who were in the parking lot between 1 and 2 p.m. Wednesday, who may have information that could help the investigation.

Alberta Health Services confirmed to the Gazette late Wednesday afternoon that the Sturgeon had locked down its ER. The lockdown lifted at 4:45 p.m. that day.

Anyone who has information on any crime is asked to contact the St. Albert RCMP Detachment at 780-458-7700 or their local police.  If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the "P3 Tips" app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
