The St. Albert U18 AAA Cardinals are victorious while Senior Cardinals fall short

Cardinals beat Twins

The St. Albert U18 AAA Cardinals beat out the Parkland Twins on Sunday afternoon in St. Albert.

The Cardinals, who are tied for second place in the 18U AAA Norwest League, took out the first-place Twins over the weekend. The Twins have played 25 games so far this season and won a whopping 23, losing only two of the matches. The Twins have 203 runs for and 74 runs against for the year so far.

The Twins have 46 points in the league, which is a ten-point lead on the two teams tied for second at 36.

The Cardinals are tied with the Bandits and both teams have won 18 games this season and lost seven games. The Cardinals have 192 runs for this season and 105 runs against.

The two teams have faced off before this season, with the Twins winning 6-4 in May, 1-0 and 4-3 earlier this month. This matchup was the first time the Cardinals were able to best the Twins so far this season.

The Cardinals' next game is against the Parkland Twins again, this time in Spruce Grove at Henry Singer Park. The two teams face off on Thursday, July 18 at 7 p.m.

Seniors Cardinals fall short

The St. Albert Senior Cardinals fell one run short of beating out the Edmonton Primeaus in the NCABL.

The fifth-place Cardinals lost 5-4 to the second-place Primeaus on July 9.

The two teams have faced off already this season, with the Primeaus winning the matchup with a final score of 11-6 at the end of June. The two teams were slated to face off another time this year but were rained out.

The Primeaus have played 14 games so far this season and have won 10 and lost 4. They have earned 80 runs for and 50 runs against.

The St. Albert Cardinals have played 12 games so far this season and have won five matches and dropped another six. They have 53 runs for and 62 runs against for the year.

The Cardinals next game will be against the Edmonton Blackhawks, who are in fourth place this season.

The two teams will face off on July 18 at 7:15 p.m. in St. Albert.

After their next matchup, the league all-star game is slated to take place on July 21 at Remax Field in Edmonton.

St. Albert’s own outfielder, Hayden Chies, known as a gifted player with one of the best arms in the league, will be representing the Cardinals in the All-Star tournament. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
