St. Albert drops below 100 active COVID-19 cases

In the past 24 hours, St. Albert saw another nine cases of COVID-19 diagnosed, for a total of 1,941 since the pandemic began. Twenty-one more people recovered.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in St. Albert has dropped below 100 for the first time since Nov. 12. 

On Tuesday, the province released new provincial data showing the city sitting at 99 active COVID-19 cases.

In the past 24 hours, St. Albert saw another nine cases of COVID-19 diagnosed, for a total of 1,941 since the pandemic began. Another 21 people recovered for a total of 1,807 recoveries.

Currently, the city has 142.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than Edmonton's 174.4 cases per 100,000 and Beaumont's 250.8 cases per 100,000, but higher than other capital region municipalities like Fort Saskatchewan (66.5 per 100,000), Strathcona County (101.8 per 100,000), Spruce Grove (71.6 per 100,000), Stony Plain (124 per 100,000) and Leduc (122.1 per 100,000).

In Sturgeon County, there are currently 28 active cases, up from 24 yesterday. The county added two more cases overnight, and two cases that had been listed as recovered are now listed as active. The county has 100.2 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people.

Morinville has 30 active cases, up from 28 yesterday. The town added no cases in the past 24 hours, but two cases that had been listed as recovered are now listed as active. The town has 262.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Across Alberta, another 268 cases were diagnosed in the past 24 hours, with 7,899 tests completed for a positivity rate of 3.5 per cent.

There are currently 6,912 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 556 people in the hospital and 97 of them in intensive care. Thirteen new deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the total COVID-19-related deaths to 1,660 since the pandemic began. 

There are currently active alerts or outbreaks in 305 schools, or about 16 per cent of all schools in the province. There are a total of 726 COVID-19 cases associated with these schools.

The province has given out 107,438 doses of vaccine as of Feb. 1 but will be facing more vaccine shipment delays in the coming weeks.
