St. Albert hits 186 active cases of COVID-19 on Friday

Overnight St. Albert added 19 more positive COVID-19 cases, while 10 more people recovered.

The city of St. Albert saw an increase in active cases on Friday up from 177 on Thursday, to 186, the highest active cases the city has seen since Jan. 13.

Overnight St. Albert added 19 more positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the total cases diagnosed since the pandemic began up to 2,325 from 2,306 the previous day.

Recoveries increased overnight, up from 2,086 to 2,096, marking an additional 10 recoveries.

In the past week cases in the city have climbed, with active cases hitting 147 last Friday, showing an increase of 39 active cases in a week. Overall, another 105 cases have been diagnosed in the past seven days, while another 66 people have recovered.

In Sturgeon County, active cases hit 95 overnight, up from 94 reported yesterday. This is the highest active case count since Dec. 23. Last Friday the county had 59 active cases, and has added 36 active cases in the past week.

Morinville has 50 active cases, up from 48 on Thursday. In the past week the town has added 15 active cases, up from 35 last Friday.

Across Alberta another 1,616 cases were added overnight, bringing the total active cases up to 16,759. Some 898 new variant cases were identified, and variants now make up 53.5 per cent of all active cases.

The province ran 16,876 tests overnight, with a positivity rate of 9.6 per cent.

There are currently 423 Albertans in the hospital with COVID-19 and 93 of those are in intensive care.

No new deaths were reported.

Some 1,082,391 vaccine doses were given as of April 15.
