Both of the St. Albert Public Library's locations in downtown St. Albert and Jensen Lakes are closed indefinitely.

On Sunday afternoon, the library issued a media release regarding the closure.

"The health of our customers and staff are our highest priority as we work to limit the spread of COVID-19. The decision to close the library comes after close monitoring of recommendations from Alberta Health Services," the statement read.

Staff will still answer answer phone calls and emails during regular downtown library hours, and online resources will remain available.

Due dates for library materials have been extended and overdue fines have been suspended.

"We encourage library patrons to keep their library materials until further notice; however, if customers wish to return library materials during the closure, they can do so using the Downtown and Jensen Lakes libraries book drops," the statement read.

The library encourages members to use the digital resources available at www.sapl.ca/elibrary.
