St. Albert reports 78 new COVID-19 cases since Friday

Sixty three more people recovered over the weekend.

St. Albert added 78 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 373.

New provincial numbers released Monday afternoon show a jump in cases diagnosed in St. Albert over the weekend, but the number of St. Albertans who are recovering from the virus has also increased.

Of the 1,011 cases the city has seen since the start of the pandemic, 635 people have recovered. Sixty three recovered this past weekend.

Morinville deaths

Two people in Morinville have died from COVID-19, according to numbers released Monday afternoon. Morinville has 50 active cases, with 114 people having recovered since the pandemic began.

Sturgeon County has 111 active cases with 257 people having recovered since the pandemic began.

On Monday, the province reported 1,735 new cases diagnosed provincewide in the past 24 hours.

Currently there are 20,067 active cases in the province. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 70,301 people in Alberta have contracted the virus.

There are currently 609 people in the hospital from COVID-19, and Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Deena Hinshaw noted the average age of hospitalization from the virus is mid-60s. One hundred eight people are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Sixteen deaths were reported in the past 24 hours from the virus, bringing the total amount of Albertans who have died so far from COVID-19 to 631.

Yesterday, the province conducted 20,358 COVID-19 tests, with a positivity rate of 8.5 per cent.
