Covid-19

In the wake of an announcement from the province that K-12 classes are cancelled, St. Albert Public Schools has said students and parents will not be able to access schools on Monday, March 16.

In a message to families, superintendent Krimsen Sumners and school board chair Glenys Edwards said children's schools will communicate with parents about how they can pick up text books, personal items, etc., within the next day or two.

"This is an unprecedented move in our province and many details are still being worked out," the letter stated of the province's decision.

"After spring break, we will provide details on alternate curriculum delivery and resources."

The letter noted information about partial refunds or credit for things like bus fees will be released after the spring break as well, once St. Albert Public has a better idea of how long schools will be closed for.

School authorities will be continuing day-to-day operations, and teachers and staff are expected to go to work as usual.

Students will receive a final grade and will progress to the next grade level as usual in the fall. Students on track to graduate will do so.

"Please continue to follow the AHS guidelines about travel, self-care and monitoring. This is the most challenging issue our division and our province, and indeed the world, has faced but we will work together to meet these challenges as best we can," the letter stated.

"We are working on solutions across the division and we ask that you minimize contact with individual teachers at this time. When we have more details, we will share them with you. We thank you for your understanding and patience as we work out the details to meet the learning needs of your children in the weeks to come."

Greater St. Albert Catholic

David Keohane, superintendent of schools for Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, said in a letter to the division's parents, students and staff that he would communicate with all parents and staff in the next two days regarding access to resources and supports for children's educations.

"Staff are to report to work and begin to plan for the delivery of educational programming through a distance education philosophy," he wrote. "Further direction and details of Divisional support in this regard will be forthcoming."

Sturgeon Public

Sturgeon Public Schools posted to its Facebook page Sunday night asking parents not to contact schools on Monday about belongings or other learning needs, unless there is a medical emergency.

"We need time to develop plans to allow a controlled / planned process for the pick up of materials / personal items etc.," the school devision wrote.

"It is likely that we will need to create a schedule to limit the number of people coming to the school at any given time."

Francophone Schools

The Greater North Central Francophone Education Region No. 2 posted a statement on its website Sunday that details would be forthcoming on measures to ensure students' education.
