St. Albert police are on the hunt for a knife-wielding male after an Akinsdale man was stabbed twice in his own home.

St. Albert RCMP were called to an Akinsdale home at about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, said Const. Janice Schoepp. There they met a woman who said a man had stabbed her husband twice while they were socializing in their home.

“He was in their residence,” Schoepp said, “and alcohol was being consumed.” An argument broke out, during which the man threatened the husband and wife with a knife.

The man stabbed the husband in the hand and head before fleeing on foot. The husband was taken to Sturgeon Community Hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Police called in a tracking dog to find the suspect, but had yet to locate him as of press time.

“We don’t believe he’s a danger to the public,” Schoepp said, as the victims knew the suspected stabber. “It was target specific.”

Police are now looking for Richard Wayne Durocher, 24, of no fixed address. He is described as Caucasian with short brown hair, standing 5-10 and weighing 160 pounds.

Anyone with information on this crime should call St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700, or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
