Star Wars outfit turns heads

He didn’t come from a galaxy far, far away, but his walk through St. Albert turned a few heads on Friday.

He didn’t come from a galaxy far, far away, but his walk through St. Albert turned a few heads on Friday.

Nathan Baker, an avid Star Wars fan, went for a walk in a complete Storm Trooper outfit from the iconic films, causing some motorists to pull over and one woman to call police.

Const. Janice Schoepp with the St. Albert RCMP said officers received a call about Baker because a woman saw the replica gun in his hand and believed it could be real.

Officers caught up with Baker on St. Albert Trail north of McKenney Avenue and Schoepp said they suggested the full outfit might draw more attention than he would want.

“They just spoke to him and advised him that next time he should probably leave the weapon at home.”

Baker said he took the RCMP’s message to heart.

“I will probably leave the gun behind, because I think that is the main thing.”

Motorists pulled into parking lots along St. Albert Trail and got out to take pictures with Baker.

Baker said he purchased the costume last year and loves wearing it and the attention that comes with it.

“It is pretty awesome, I would wear it every day if I could.”

He said on Friday afternoon he was going to see some friends in the costume, simply because he wanted to.

“I keep it in my closest and I was looking at it and I thought, ‘I haven’t worn this in a while.’”
