Sturgeon Hospital Home boosts bottom line for foundation

A unique community collaboration in Morinville has resulted in big dividends for the fundraising organization that supports the region's major medical centre.

A unique community collaboration in Morinville has resulted in big dividends for the fundraising organization that supports the region's major medical centre.

At a special ceremony held yesterday afternoon in Heritage Village Estates, the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation (SCHF) received a cheque for $77,000 from representatives of RMK Homes, Savenay Builders and Servus Credit Union, three big-hearted local businesses that partnered together to build the Sturgeon Hospital House. The work, started one year ago, was completed through the combined efforts of 65 other businesses that donated a portion of their time, services or expenses to get the job done for the benefit of all.

Katrina Black, the executive director at the SCHF, is thrilled to have seen so many rally together for the benefit of her organization.

"Seventy-seven thousand dollars is an incredible donation towards our hospital," she began, adding it's the community at large that truly wins in the end. "It's going to significantly enhance patient care at the hospital through the purchase of state of the art equipment."

Next Friday the SCHF will co-host its annual Heritage Golf Classic in partnership with the St. Albert Community Foundation. It costs $250 to register and comes with a charitable tax receipt for $125. The event has been held annually since 2001 and takes place at the Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club. Call Barb at 780-418-7361 or visit www.sturgeonhospitalfoundation.org for more information.

Ballet company home tour

St. Albert interior designer Chantal Ross jumped at the chance to offer her services for the benefit of Alberta Ballet. She heard about it through one of her business's suppliers and a client involved with the ballet's administrative board.

"That's where it went!" she exclaimed. "It's really exciting."

Her entry is in a new condo building in Edmonton's downtown. It's called Sky's the Limit, and according to the ballet's website, it "combines the past and present through its use of colour, drapery, art and collectibles, all exuding French décor with contemporary style in a luxurious 2,500-square-foot tenth floor suite." Ross elaborated that she has included some specially designed furniture to complement the client's fantastic art and antique collection, and that the luxurious 232-sq.-metre (2,500-sq.-ft.) 10th floor suite has a spectacular and unprecedented view.

Although this is Ross's first time on this tour, she's no stranger to helping out good community causes. She has put forth her services for the St. Albert Senior Citizens' Centre's Homes for Christmas Tour for a few years now.

The tour runs on June 26 and 27. Call 780-428-6839 or visit www.albertaballet.com for more information on the tour or the company. The one-day self-guided tour is $40.
