St. Albert RCMP are looking for help finding thieves who appear to have found the offerings at a local show home a little too enticing.

A host of furniture and appliances were stolen from the home at 20 Levesque Way on January 2 between 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

The thieves broke into the home through the front door and caused extensive damage throughout the property during their uninvited move.

Cpl. Laurel Kading said residents in the area saw a white pickup truck and an older model full-sized dark panel van outside of the home.

Kading said because the home was a show home, residents weren’t suspicious of the activity.

“They just assumed either the house had been sold or it was closing up.”

Among the items stolen from the property were six white leather couches, a stainless steel refrigerator, glass table with granite legs and a kitchen dining set.

Several pieces of artwork were also stolen from the home.

Kading said the police are asking the public to be on the lookout for the items, perhaps at garage sales or through online classified sites.

She said the break in the case could be something as simple as noticing a friend’s sudden better taste.

“If you suddenly notice someone has a whole lot of really nice furniture, that might be something worth calling us over.”

Kading said the residents who saw the thieves provided the basic information the police now have and they also exposed a vulnerability of show homes.

She said in the future if something seems a little out of place, it doesn’t hurt to take a good look and maybe take down a licence plate number.

“Nine out of ten times it is going to be nothing, but you never know.”

Anyone with information on this theft is asked to call the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700 or they can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, if they wish to remain anonymous.
