Update: St. Albert school boards remain vigilant in face of armed robberies

Both the Greater St. Albert Catholic School board and the St. Albert Public School board are cautioning students following a series of armed robberies.

Both the Greater St. Albert Catholic School board and the St. Albert Public School board are cautioning students following a series of armed robberies in the city.

Since April 18, roughly six young people between 10 and 20 years old have been robbed throughout the city, according to the RCMP.

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools said on its website that its schools would “remain vigilant with supervision around our schools before and after school and at recess.”

It added that all doors at the schools would remain locked during the day, as per protocol.

St. Albert Public Schools shared similar sentiments. In a Facebook post, the school board said it would be increasing supervision before and after school. The doors on all its schools would also remain locked during the day.

The St. Albert Public School board will be meeting at 5 p.m. today to update trustees on the situation.

The two school boards released their statements yesterday in response to armed robberies targeted at youth in St. Albert. The RCMP are currently on the lookout for two suspects.

One is described as Asian or Filipino, thin, mid twenties and wearing a cross body bag. He may have facial hair and noticeable acne.

The other is described as a black male with short hair (buzz cut).

If anyone has any information on the robberies, please contact St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), online at p3tips.com. A tip leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
