This rewarding opportunity helps provide sport and recreation for persons who are mentally challenged. Choose between helping to coach swimming or bowling. Commitment involves an hour or two, once per week, September through May.

Help this organization that helps provide teenage pregnancy support services by volunteering at the Baby Heroes donation drop station at Kingsway Garden Mall, Oct. 6 to 24. Volunteers will accept diaper donations, answer general inquiries from the public and help to increase social awareness. Lots of four-hour shifts to choose from.

Do you enjoy working with children and youth? Then make a difference in a young person’s life and volunteer to be a soccer coach or co-coach. There are lots of age groups to choose from — coach four-year-olds where your main role is to coax and encourage the beginners in the game or other age groups right through to the older teens. The indoor season runs October through March. Coach courses and training are offered and available but not mandatory.

Are you comfortable around horses and are you interested in helping children and adults with disabilities to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of recreational horseback riding? In an hour-long class, a horse handler will lead a horse while the rider participates in the class. The side walker will walk alongside the horse and lend physical and emotional support to the rider during the lesson. Fall session starts mid-September and runs for 10 weeks. Experience with horses or people with disabilities not required. Volunteers must be a minimum 14 years of age.

Will you be between the ages of two and four months in October? Start family volunteering early as you and your parent visit elementary school classrooms to help children learn about empathy and getting along with each other. You will assist a trained facilitator who will lead the discussion with the class. This program needs a commitment of a one-hour visit each month from October to June.

Make a difference in the lives of others and help to raise awareness of organ donation while volunteering at this family-friendly event, Sunday, Sept. 26 at Lions Park in St. Albert. Volunteers needed for the registration table, food and beverage services, entertainment host, set-up, clean-up and course marshals.

Are you bilingual, fluent in French and English and enjoy working with children? Help youth with homework in the French language on Thursday evenings throughout the school year.
