Slash at home

The St. Albert Slash are winners of 11 in a row on home ice when the midget AAA team closes out the Alberta Female Hockey League regular season with three games at Go Auto Arena.

Faceoff times are 7:45 p.m. Friday against the Lloydminster Steelers (19-6-1) and Saturday against Calgary Fire (17-8-3) and 8:15 p.m. against the Red Deer Chiefs (9-16-3) March 3.

The Slash (24-2-1) will be without a trio of forwards as Jaden Bogden, Isabelle Lajoie and Brooklyn Schroeder will be competing for the U18 provincial team at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

The 17th victory in 18 games for the Slash was 3-1 Sunday in the Border City as Bogden, Jenna Goodwin and Mackenzie Kordic scored on 23 shots against the Steelers.

There was no scoring in the third period as the teams combined for 13 minors and the majority were roughing infractions.

Holly Borrett (13-0, 0.69 GAA) stopped 17 of 18 shots after teaming up with Brianna Sank (11-2-1, 0.93 GAA) to post a pair of shutouts apiece in the previous four games.

The two-time defending Esso Cup champions are the host team for the Final Frozen Four provincials, March 22 to 24, for the right to host the British Columbia champion in the best-of-three national qualifier.

The 11th annual Esso Cup is April 21 to 27 at Sudbury, Ont.
