The puck drops Sunday at 6:30 a.m. for the inaugural St. Albert Winter Classic Hockey Tournament at Servus Credit Union Place.
The tournament is hosted by the St. Albert initiation, novice and atom development leagues and consists of all the teams that play in those leagues. Games are scheduled for the Performance, Mark Messier and Troy Murray arenas. The finals are slated for Wednesday at 4 p.m. (novice 2), 5:30 p.m. (novice 1) and 7 p.m. (atom 1) at Performance Arena.

The 32nd annual Mac’s Midget Hockey Tournament is under way in Calgary for the St. Albert Raiders and St. Albert Slash.
Today at the Max Bell Arena the Raiders face off against the UFA Bisons at 12:45 p.m. and the Slash play the Red Deer Chiefs at 4:30 p.m.
The round-robin draw for the Raiders includes games against the Red Deer Rebels (11:45 a.m. Sunday at Max Bell), Saskatoon Contacts (9 a.m. Monday at Father David Bauer Arena) and the North Island Silvertips from Vancouver Island (11:45 a.m. Wednesday at Centennial Arenas).
The Raiders are the top team in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League as the north division leaders with a record of 16-4-5.
In the female division the Slash have games scheduled at Max Bell against the Notre Dame Hounds (1 p.m. Sunday), Westman Wildcats (10:30 a.m. Tuesday) and the Calgary Chaos (3:30 p.m. Wednesday).
In the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League, the Slash are ranked third in the north division at 10-7-6.
The Mac’s tournament features 25 male teams and 15 female teams. The Jan. 1 championship finals at the Pengrowth Saddledome will be aired live by Shaw TV.

The deadline to submit applications for the second annual John Reid Memorial Scholarship is Jan. 7.
The $1,000 scholarship is open to players who played bantam AAA hockey for St. Albert after the 2004/05 season; played hockey in St. Albert for a minimum of three years; are Alberta residents and Canadian citizens and are enrolled in a recognized post-secondary education institution.
Applicants must also write a 250-word paper on what playing bantam AAA hockey in St. Albert meant to them, while listing future plans and financial obligations for those plans.
The winner will be announced during the John Reid Memorial Tournament, Jan. 21 to 24 at Servus Credit Union Place. The inaugural recipient was Justin Kueber.
