The playoff winner will challenge the Calgary Outlaws or Rocky Mountain Raiders for the league championship.

In the north standings, the Raiders (15-8-3) placed first and the Lightning (12-9-5) finished second.

The Raiders started the playoffs with a 2-1 series victory over the Sherwood Park Kings last weekend. In the deciding game, Renee Saulnier tallied twice and Kayla Nicholls stopped 30 shots in a 5-3 victory. Danielle Klein, Rebecca Wall and Jenica Roy also scored.

After taking game one 5-1 the Raiders dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Kings, with the winning goal coming on the power play. The Kings were 0-22-4 in the regular season.

The puck drops Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Investors Group/Hockey Alberta peewee AA major provincial championship at Servus Credit Union Place.

The St. Albert Minor Hockey Association is represented by the Saints, the zone 3 reps, and the host Sabres.

In the Jarome Iginla pool the Saints play the Sherwood Park Jets, Red Deer, Okotoks Oilers and Calgary. The Sabres are in the Mark Messier pool with Edmonton, Lloydminster Blazers, Bow Valley Timberwolves and Grande Prairie Titans.

Games are scheduled for the Performance and Mark Messier arenas.

The Alberta Soccer Association U14 tier II boys’ championship is under way at Servus Credit Union Place and Edmonton Soccer Centre West.

The first match for the St. Albert Impact in the 12-team draw was Friday against the Crusaders but the score was unavailable at press time.

Sunday’s medal finals kick off at 12:15 p.m. (bronze) and 12:30 p.m. (gold) at Servus Place.

The 6 Nations Rugby tournament wraps up with today’s tripleheader televised live at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

Kick-off times at the Sandy Bibby Memorial Theatre are 8:30 a.m. (Wales vs. Italy), 11 a.m. (Ireland vs. Scotland) and 1:45 p.m. (France vs. England).

Multi-game day tickets are $30, which includes a Belly Boy breakfast.
