The St. Albert Rugby Football Club kicks off its home fixtures Saturday with a tripleheader against the Druids at the Leading Edge Physiotherapy Fields.

The tentative kickoff times are 1 p.m. for the men’s third division and 3 p.m. for both the men’s Alberta Cup and Alberta premier women. Visit www.stalbertrugby.com and www.edmontonrugby for schedule updates.

The women’s first 15 make their return to the Alberta premier ranks after going 13-1 last year as the Edmonton Rugby Union (ERU) second division pennant (10-1) and playoff winners and Alberta Rugby Union provincial champions.

The thirds are coming off a 10-5 ERU campaign as the Visser Cup finalists for the second year in a row. Their 2008 record was 11-6-1. Both years they were seeded third in the playoffs.

The men’s first 15 lost only one game last year, the provincial final to the Calgary Hornets 24-22 to snap a 13-game winning streak. In the 2008 final the firsts fell 24-10 to the Calgary Saints to finish 13-3-1 overall in their first year in premier after a few seasons in the second division.

The Bellerose Bulldogs and St. Albert Skyhawks renew their rivalry on the sports fields this week in the Metro Edmonton High School Athletic Association.

Today at 4:45 p.m. the men’s rugby teams scrum down in a north pool match at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club. The Skyhawks are 0-2 (5 PF/75 PA) and Bellerose is 1-1 (33 PF/17 PA).

The men’s soccer teams also kick off their city conference pool B match today at 4:15 at Riel Park.

At 4:15 p.m. Thursday the women’s city conference soccer teams play at Riel Park.

Registrations are being accepted for the Phat Hawks Combo Camp for basketball players.

The May 30 event at St. Albert Catholic High School is for boys and girls in three divisions: Grades 5 to 7, Grades 8 and 9 and high school. Sessions are 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $75. Email [email protected] for more information or visit http://phathawks.blogspot.com/2010/04/phat-hawks-combo-camp-2010.html

College players and the lady Skyhawks will also assist.

Dedrick will oversee the specific teachings of fundamental basketball and Lipscombe will lead the drills essential for athletic progress at all levels, both at a functional and core level.

Dedrick and Lipscombe are also the driving forces behind the Phat Hawks Academy, which is tentatively slated to start up in the fall.
