Senior B Miners

The first-place St. Albert Miners head south this weekend with an eight-game winning streak in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The senior B Miners (8-1) play the Rockyview Knights (6-4) today at 5 p.m. in Airdrie and the Calgary Mountaineers (6-4) at 3 p.m. Sunday at Stu Peppard Arena.

The Miners are coming off Wednesday’s 11-8 decision against the second-place Outlaws (7-5) at Beaumont.

The Miners posted period leads of 3-1 and 8-3 against the team that beat them 13-9 in the season-opener May 3 at Beaumont.

The top point producer was Richard Lachlan with two goals and six assists.

Graedon Cornfield generated four goals and three assists and Matt Kristiansen added two goals and four assists. Tom Buckley tallied twice and Darren Kinnear also scored.

All the goals were recorded at even strength while the Outlaws potted three on the power play and a pair shorthanded.

The result lifted the overall record for the three-time defending President’s Cup national champions to 95-5-2 since losing the 2015 RMLL provincial final.

13U AAA games

The St. Albert Cardinals have four 13U AAA games scheduled this weekend at John Fry Park.

Today’s doubleheader is at noon against the Edmonton Expos (4-11) and 3 p.m. against the Red Deer Braves (15-4) and Sunday’s twin bill is 10 a.m. against the Braves and 1 p.m. against the Expos.

The Cardinals, winners of five in a row, have three games in hand on the first-place Braves.

The next home game for the 2018 silver medallists at the Tier I provincials and westerns is Wednesday versus the Sherwood Park Athletics (5-12) at 7 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

18U AA games

The St. Albert Cardinals Red and Blue teams continue league play this weekend in the Baseball Alberta 18U AA division

In the north one schedule, Cardinals Red (7-1-1) hosts the Barrhead Orioles (7-0-1) today at 7 p.m. at the Legion Memorial Park peewee diamond and Sunday’s doubleheader times at Millwoods Diamond are 10 a.m. against the Provost Pilots (6-3) and 1 p.m. against the South Jasper Place Jays (5-4).

The north two games for Cardinals Blue (3-4) in Stony Plain today are 3 p.m. against High Prairie Sauce (1-7) and 6 p.m. against Fort Saskatchewan Red Sox 2 (4-4) and Sunday at 3 p.m. against Parkland Twins Red (1-5).

The 18U AA league consists of 37 teams, including the south two Alberta Women (7-2). in four divisions.
