The host St. Albert Track and Field Club will be represented by 60 athletes in the peewee, bantam, midgets and youth divisions.

Manitoba has 96 athletes entered and the Northwest Territories is sending 15 athletes to the two-day event.

The competition is also the selection meet for the Legion Canadian Youth Athletics Championships and Midget Western Championships.

The opening ceremonies start at 8 a.m. Saturday. Mayor Nolan Crouse, an avid masters race walker, is the keynote speaker.

Tonight in second division women’s rugby, St. Albert and the Pirates will ruck and maul at the Pirates Rugby Club. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

In the Edmonton Rugby Union standings the Pirates (2-3, 110 PF/85 PA) are ranked fifth out of eight teams. St. Albert (0-4, 14 PF/244 PA) shares last place with the Grande Prairie Sirens.

Saturday’s tripleheader at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club starts with the second division men at 1 p.m. between fourth-place St. Albert (3-3, 112 PF/138 PA) and the sixth-place Norwesters (1-4-1, 77 PF/125 PA). The men’s Alberta Cup tilt between third-place St. Albert (3-1, 142 PF/75 PA) and the fourth-place Red Deer Titans (3-3, 107 PF/125 PA) scrums down at 3 p.m. The 5 p.m. Alberta premier women’s contest features winless St. Albert (0-5, 18 PF/385 PA) and the second-place Lep/Tigers (3-1-1, 165 PF/78 PA).

Also scheduled Saturday is the men’s third division match between ninth-place St. Albert (1-5, 69 PF/166 PA) and the fifth-place Clansmen (3-2, 90 PF/66 PA) at 1 p.m. at Airways Park.

The bantam AAA St. Albert Cardinals host Sherwood Park Green tonight at 7 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

The Cardinals were 10-2 in the performance division entering Tuesday’s home game against Spruce Grove. The score was unavailable at press time.

This weekend the Cardinals have doubleheaders on tap Saturday against Foothills Red at noon and 3 p.m. and Sunday against Red Deer at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Legion park.

The St. Albert Impact division one men’s teams in the Edmonton District Soccer Association are in action tonight at Riel Park.

In division 1A, the Impact 2 (2-1-2) tackle the Serbian Eagles (2-3-1) at 6:30 p.m. The team is tied for second overall coming off its first loss of the season, 3-2 against first-place AS Roma (4-1-1) Sunday at Riel Park. Impact 2 striker Cohen Cassidy ranks second in division scoring with five goals.

In division 1B, the second-place Impact 1 (3-1-2) play the third-place Ital-Canadians (3-0) at 7 p.m. Impact 2 trails division-leading SS Napoli (5-1) by four points. The top scorer for Impact 1 is Daniel Pilon with five goals. Shaun Kelly and Marcello Cimino have four apiece.
