Women’s rugby

The St. Albert Rugby Football Club hosts two women’s matches this week at 7 p.m.

SARFC plays the Nor’Westers tonight in the Edmonton Rugby Union second division and the Clan on Thursday in the Alberta premier division.

SARFC (2-3) and Nor’Westers (3-1-1) are among five teams in round two of the ERU second division fixtures after results in the seeding round determined the division one and two tables, and one of the matches was 48-5 for the Nor’Westers at SARFC.

Last weekend in round two of the premier fixtures, SARFC (1-1) was victorious 62-29 against the Rams (0-2) in Calgary and the Clan (2-0) won 32-5 against the visiting Red Deer Titans (0-2).

In the premier seeding round, four teams in the north and four in the south qualified for the interlock fixtures and advancing from the north were SARFC (3-1), Clan (1-3), Pirates (3-1) and Lep/Tigers (4-0), last year’s provincial champions.

13U AAA games

A four-game homestand starts tonight for the first-place St. Albert Cardinals in the Baseball Alberta 13U AAA League.

First pitch is 7 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Athletics (5-12) at Legion Memorial Park.

Saturday’s doubleheader times are noon against the Okotoks Dawgs (8-2) and 6 p.m. against the Fort McMurray Oil Giants (2-18).

The Cardinals and Okotoks play again at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The Cardinals (18-2), last year’s silver medallists at Tier I provincials and westerns, are winners of nine straight after sweeping the Red Deer Braves (16-6) 14-7 and 6-3 and Edmonton Expos (4-14) 14-4 and 11-1 last weekend at John Fry Park.

Fight of the Fittest

Athletes will be challenged mentally and physically at the Fight of the Fittest this weekend at Go Auto Arena.

The all-inclusive Canadian fitness competition consists of skills and workout events in six divisions: elite individuals, elite masters' individuals, competitive teams, open teams and masters' women teams.

The schedule is as follows:

Individual: Friday 6:02 p.m. endurance, Saturday 10 a.m. strength, 1:08 p.m. bodyweight, 4:43 p.m. mixed, Sunday 10:38 a.m. skill, 1:05 p.m. power.

Team: Friday 5:30 p.m. endurance, Saturday 11:20 a.m. strength, 3:15 p.m. mixed. Sunday 9:30 a.m. skill, 12:45 p.m. power.

In partnership with the Canadian Functional Fitness Federation, five athletes in the elite men’s and women’s divisions will have the opportunity to represent Canada at the IF3 World Championship, Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 at Malmo, Sweden.
