18U AA Cardinals
Pool play wraps up today at the Baseball Alberta 18U AA Tier I tournament at Legion Memorial Park.
The last pool B game for the host St. Albert Cardinals Red is 6 p.m. against the Provost Pilots.
Friday’s scores against Red Deer Braves Red and Barrhead Orioles were unavailable at press time.
Pool A consists of the Strathmore Reds, Innisfail Hawks, Leduc Giants and Okotoks Outlaws Orange.
If there are no tiebreakers, Sunday’s crossover semifinals are 9 a.m. and noon, and the final is 3 p.m.
The winner advances to westerns, Aug. 16 to 18 at Strathmore.
The Cardinals are ranked second in the provincial draw and the team’s 14-3-1 league record includes late-season losses of 23-6 and 11-6 to Strathmore (12-5).
21U AAA Cardinals
The Baseball Alberta 21U AAA tournament starts today for the No. 1-ranked St. Albert Cardinals at Wally Footz Field.
The 3 p.m. opener is against the No. 4 Community Park Reds.
Sunday’s game times are at noon against the No. 3 Edmonton Padres, the host team, and 6 p.m. against the No. 2 Innisfail Merchants, last year’s provincial champions.
Barring any tiebreakers, the final is noon on Sunday, but if the first-place team in the round robin is undefeated and loses then a sudden-death game will be played at 3 p.m.
The junior AAA champion represents Alberta at westerns, Aug. 9 to 11 at Saskatoon.
In league play, the Cardinals (11-7) and Innisfail (11-8) tied for first ahead of the Padres (10-8) and Community Park (9-10).
All five games between the Cardinals and Innisfail were decided by one run with the Red Birds winning three of them.
13U AA Cardinals
Eight games are scheduled today in pool play at the Baseball Alberta 13U AA Tier I tournament at Legion Memorial Park.
The host St. Albert Cardinals Red are in pool A with the Innisfail Hawks, Beaumont BoSox and Stettler Storm, and pool B features Camrose Cougars Royal, Strathmore Reds 1, Oyen Orioles and Grande Prairie Reds 1.
The Cardinals, ranked fifth in the draw, face Beaumont at 9 a.m. and Stettler at 3 p.m.
