Rugby match

The defending Labatt’s Cup provincial champions host the Nor’Westers in a must-win premier men’s match Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

In the Alberta Cup round two fixtures, SARFC (1-2, 6-4 overall) is clinging to the fourth and last semifinal berth by one point over the Calgary Hornets (1-3, 4-5 overall) with one match in hand.

SARFC also has one extra bonus point more than the Hornets despite losing Saturday’s topsy-turvy 49-48 affair in Calgary.

The Nor’Westers (0-3, 4-6 overall) are ranked at the bottom of the six-team table.

The last SARFC match before the Sept. 24 playoffs is next Saturday against the third-place Strathcona Druids (2-2, 8-3 overall) at 4 p.m. in Sherwood Park.

Premier provincials

The St. Albert Impact 2 women’s team is the third Edmonton District Soccer Association rep at the premier provincial championship this weekend at ESA Complex.

In the four-team round robin with no medal playoffs, the Impact plays Saturday against 2018 champion Northwest United 2 at 4:30 p.m., Sunday against Futbol United at 4:30 p.m. and Monday against Villains FC Panthers of Calgary at 10:15 a.m.

The final EDSA premier table lists the Impact (9-5-4, 37 GF/30 GA) third behind the Northwest (17-0-1, 64 GF/3 GA) pennant winner and Futbol (11-3-4, 48 GF/25 GA).

Tier I provincials

The St. Albert Impact 4 women’s team defends its Tier I provincial championship this weekend at ESA Complex.

The Impact (13-3-2, 33 GF/26 GA) and Powerplay FC (11-1-1, 50 GF/9 GA) are the Edmonton District Soccer Association reps at provincials.

The Impact finished second in division 1A and Powerplay placed first in division 1B.

The Impact’s kick off times are 1 p.m. Saturday against CJSC of Calgary, 3 p.m. Sunday against Powerplay and 11:30 a.m. Monday against Pass FC of Calgary to wrap up the four-team tournament.

Tier II provincials

The St. Albert Impact 5 women’s team kicks off the Tier II provincials Saturday at ESA Complex.

The Impact lines up against the Airdrie United Aztecs at 1 p.m., followed by matches at 11 a.m. Sunday against the Ital Canadians and 10:45 a.m. Monday against EMFC Swat of Calgary.

In the Edmonton District Soccer Association, the Impact (13-2-3, 68 GF/25 GA) finished second in division 2A and the Ital Canadians (17-0, 120 GF/15 GA) were first in division 2B before both teams qualified for the four-team provincial round robin.
