The second annual Larry Mitchell Cup is good to go Sunday at Jarome Iginla Arena.

The midget AAA intersquad game, hosted by the St. Albert Nektar Raiders, starts at 2:30 p.m. and features the top 40 players at the main camp that started Friday.

The Team White and Team Blue rosters and those players continuing on with the selection process will be posted tonight on the Raiders’ team page at raidershockey.ca.

The Larry Mitchell Cup is named after St. Albert’s hockey historian and former longtime Gazette sports writer.

Slash exhibitions

The St. Albert Slash of the Alberta Female Hockey League skate into the preseason next week with two games scheduled at Go Auto Arena.

Faceoff times are 6:45 p.m. Monday against the Red Deer Chiefs and 7 p.m. Wednesday against the Edmonton Pandas.

The Slash are winners of an unprecedented three consecutive Esso Cup midget AAA female championships in the tournament’s 11-year history and last season finished 35-5-2 overall.

Ball hockey event

The sixth annual Douglas Deacon Memorial Classic is good to go Thursday in support of St. Albert Special Olympics.

The ball hockey tournament was established by Daniel Deacon in memory of his brother, Douglas, who died in 2011 at the age of 34.

The fun-filled affair also brings community awareness for people with developmental disabilities.

Everyone is welcome to play.

The tournament runs 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Transitions, 365 Carleton Drive in Campbell Business Park.
