Junior B game

Sunday the St. Albert Merchants host the Beaumont Chiefs in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Jarome Iginla Arena.

The pregame ceremony will feature a cheque presentation from Larry and Diane Spagnolo to seven-year-old Aven Martin Ochoa of Onoway, who is receiving treatments for Medulloblastoma, an aggresive and malignant form of brain cancer. The Merchants have been active in various fundrasing initatives in support of the 102.3 Now! Radio's Empties for Angels campaign for the team's Mini Merch, including a hot tub raffle. The winners of the draw were the Spagnolos and they donated the prize and the proceeds from its sale back to Aven and her family to assist with the treatment process as a form of Pay it Forward act of kindness.

Entering the weekend schedule, Beaumont (6-2-1) was first in the east division and the Merchants (4-4) stood fourth in the west standings.

The Merchants were winners of two in a row before playing the Stony Plain Flyers (6-3) and Friday’s score was unavailable at press time.

After eight games, Ryan Cooper ranked among the CJHL scoring leaders with seven goals and 18 points.
