Participate in the Passport to Gymnastics

Keep fit and have fun. If you were around in the 90s, you may remember Hal and Joanne’s Body Break segments that would popup on your screen in between your favourite TV shows.
Keep fit and have fun. If you were around in the ’90s, you may remember Hal and Joanne’s Body Break segments that would pop up on your screen in between your favourite TV shows. These segments were part of the early days of Canada’s ParticipACTION program.

Now ParticipACTION is being brought to St. Albert as the city strives to be named Canada’s Most Active Community.

Join kids and their families at the Dynamyx Gymnastics Club on May 26 for a fun filled afternoon of fitness and gymnastics. The Passport to Gymnastics is a free community event being hosted by the Dynamyx Gymnastics Club as part of the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity for us to provide some chances for the kids to learn a little bit more about gymnastics and try it out by offering it for free,” said Kristin Rosichuk, Recreation Coordinator for the Dynamyx Gymnastics Club.

Kids of all ages will be able to participate in a number of activities including running a variety of obstacle courses, swinging on bars, balancing on the balance beams and jumping into the foam pit. Areas for babies to participate will be available as well.

“We are really hoping to give the kids a well-rounded experience so that they can work on some of those physical literacy skills that are so important and kind of develop that foundation to help them with all sports,” Rosichuk said.

While the event is free, parents are being asked to pre-register their children for one of the two time slots available to guarantee participation at the event. Families can register online at www.dynamyxgymnastics.com for either the 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. time slot.

Parents do not need to worry about registering themselves, but are being asked to be present on the floor supervising and engaging with their child during the activities. Each time slot has 100 spots available and while registration can be done at the club on the day of the event, preregistration is being encouraged to ensure a spot.

ParticipACTION is awarding $150,000 to the community who gathers the most participants and active minutes during the challenge. Active minutes can be logged in and tracked by using the ParticipACTION website or app during May 31 and June 16.
