Raiders at home

This weekend marks the last home games before the playoffs for the St. Albert Nektar Raiders in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League. The Raiders host the Maple Leafs (1-29-1) at 1:45 p.m. Saturday and Lloydminster Bobcats (7-19-4) at 1:15 p.m.

The Raiders (16-11-4) are 8-5-2 on home ice after Saturday’s 5-4 decision against the Airdrie Bisons (15-14-3).

Beck McKinley tied it at four on the power play at 5:50 of the third period and Tyson Greenway notched the winner at 13:55.

Brad Adams and Eric Perneel (power play) tallied in the second and Carson Henry made it 3-2 at 1:17 in the third.

Perneel leads the Raiders in scoring with 18 goals and 29 points.

Brady Nicholas picked up three assists.

Airdrie struck once on the power play and also on the penalty kill.

Evan Fradette (four GA on 18 shots in 45 minutes) and Andreai Proctor-Ramirez (three saves in 15 minutes) split time in net.

The fourth win in seven games since winning the Mac’s Cup kept the Raiders on top of the north division by one point over the Canadian Athletic Club (14-9-7) and two in front of the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (16-13-2) and Grande Peace Storm (15-11-4).

The top two teams receive byes in the best-of-five opening round.

The regular season ends Feb. 16 for the Raiders against the Oil Kings (8-21-2) in Leduc.
