Scotties lineup almost complete

Six out of 12 rinks have been finalized for the Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the St. Albert Curling Club. The following teams have been confirmed for the Jan. 25 to 29 competition.

Six out of 12 rinks have been finalized for the Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the St. Albert Curling Club.

The following teams have been confirmed for the Jan. 25 to 29 competition.

Team Sweeting of Edmonton (2015/16 highest-ranked Alberta rink in the Canadian Team Ranking System): skip Val Sweeting, Paul Kane High School teacher Lori Olson-Johns at third, second Dana Ferguson and lead Rachelle Brown.

Team Scheidegger of Lethbridge (top CTRS point leader as of Dec. 1): skip Casey Scheidegger, third Cary-Anne McTaggart, second Jessie Scheidegger and lead Stephanie Enright.

Team Chyz of Calgary (CTRS point leader for Alberta Tour events): skip Nadine Chyz, third Heather Jensen, second Whitney Eckstrand and lead Heather Rogers.

Team Kleibrink of Okotoks (second-highest CTRS point leader for Alberta Tour events): skip Shannon Kleibrink, third Lisa Eyamie, second Sarah Wilkies and lead Alison Kotylak.

Team DeJong of Grande Prairie (Peace Curling Association A qualifier): skip Delia DeJong, third Teryn Hamilton, second Amy Janko and lead Morgan Watchorn.

Team James of Fairview (Peace Curling Association B qualifier): skip Trisha James, third Michelle Gnam, second Raeleigh Milner and lead Chelsey Whitney.

Sweeting, Scheidegger, Chyz, Kleibrink and James competed at the 2016 Alberta Scotties at the North Hill Curling Club in Calgary.

Sweeting, the runner-up at the 2014 and 2015 Canadian Scotties in three trips to nationals, lost the final to Chelsea Carey of Calgary 8-5.

Carey went on to win the Canadian Scotties and finished fourth at worlds.

The 2017 Canadian Scotties runs Feb. 18 to 26 at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, Ont.

The remaining six teams for the Alberta Scotties will consist of three qualifiers from the Jan. 6 to 8 Northern Alberta Curling Association playdowns in Fort Saskatchewan and three qualifiers from the Southern Alberta Curling Association playdowns in Airdrie.

Northerns consists of 10 rinks, four more than the 2016 playdowns staged in St. Albert.

Karynn Flory of St. Albert, who curls for the NAIT Ooks in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, will be skipping at her third consecutive northerns after qualifying out of the B event for the 2015 provincials and was 3-3 in 2016 with losses in the A and B finals.

Flory will be joined at northerns by rinks skipped by Baird, Hilker, Kaufman, Makichuk, Nichol, Sandnes, Scott, Smart and Smith.
