Kathy died peacefully at University of Alberta Hospital on the morning of November 6, 2021 concluding her third struggle with cancer. She was a nurturer of plants and people. She had a gregarious spirit and a way of touching many lives, befriending some before they’d ever realized it. Bon Accord was her home, and she tended it as if it was her garden.  She helped found the public library, reported community news for the Gazette, chronicled and researched Bon Accord history, volunteered her time to local schools, served numerous terms on council, and left her mark in its parks and gardens.

She is survived by her three sons, Thomas, Tim and Greg; one grandson, Tom (son of Tim); her mother, Mary; her brothers, Greg and Bob; her sisters, Marilyn, Janet and Pat; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews from a diverse and far-flung extended family; and a community of friends who she dearly loved.

A gathering of friends and family was held in her memory on November 13, 2021. Times and geography mean that many could not attend and we regret any who we could not contact in time.

Those wishing to send their condolences can contact her family by [email protected]. Her ashes will be laid to rest at Bon Accord Cemetery, alongside those of her husband Bob, whose memory she carried since his passing in 2014.

We are deeply thankful to all of the wonderful doctors, nurses and care workers who worked to give her time and quality of life, and to everyone in the community who has extended a hand in our time of need. We are working on a fitting tribute to her memory.

For those wishing to honour her, we would ask you to carry some small part of her spirit as you see fit. Remember that she would want you to be happy, and to look out for one another. Read a good book, paint a picture, plant a flower, encourage a friend, volunteer, share knowledge, bake brownies. "Let there be no goodbyes, only good memories."
