Dr. Finlay Munroe Fairfield

We regretfully announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Finlay Munroe Fairfield on January 15, 2020 in Sidney, BC. Born in Winnipeg, MB on April 27, 1938 was known for his great sense of humour and kind heart. He graduated as a MD from University of Alberta in 1961 and established the Grandin Medical Clinics in St. Albert and Morinville in 1966 with his friend, Dr. Ed Gramlich.

Fin married his lifelong sweetheart, Margaret Jean McLean (Peggy), in 1963 and they shared 57 happy years. He was committed to the community of St. Albert and was inspired to start the Big Lake Environmental Support Society (BLESS) which has developed into an internationally recognized organization.  His work and the work of BLESS were acknowledged with an Emerald Award in 1996.

He will be mourned by his wife, Peggy, and children Tony (Deanne), P.J. (Brian), Hugh (Lorraine) and Terry (Jason) along with his seven grandchildren, Brendan, Alyson, Aimee, Kyla and Erica Fairfield and Nicholas and Cole Fairfield-Carter, brother, Hugh (Adele) and step-brothers Gerry (Rita) and Harry (Joan) Hartley. Fin was predeceased by his beloved son, Finlay Robert, and sister, Marilyn. He will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Church, 10030 Third Street, Sidney, BC. Reception will follow at the Shoal Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive. A separate interment service will take place in St. Albert, AB in the spring.
