October 20, 1933 – December 23, 2020

Ray was born in Elk Point, AB, the 4th youngest of 10 children, and raised in Port Moody, BC. He lived an adventurous life that included a stint in the RCAF. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued to work in telecommunications across the north from Baffin Island to Whitehorse. In Yellowknife, he met and soon married the love of his life Ramona (Mona) Zelenka. They settled in St. Albert to raise their three children; Steven (Anne), Robin (Joanne) and Jodi (David), which led to the pride and joy of his life, 8 grandchildren; Katelyn, Carter, Jackson, Brody, Brayden, Delaney, Riley, Nolan and 1 great-grandson Oliver.

Ray will be fondly remembered by the numerous nieces and nephews of his extended family and all who knew him. His big heart, funny faces and contagious laugh never failed to brighten a room or event. He was an active member of the community and if he wasn’t working on a project in his garage, you would likely find him doing volunteer work at the hospital or other organizations, cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, or telling stories to anyone who would listen.

Donations may be made in his name to the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date when conditions allow.
