It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Gerry Killen. After a short battle with cancer, Gerry at the age of 68, passed away peacefully with family by his side.

 

Gerry leaves behind his wife, Valerie of 48 years; daughters: Christine (Randy), Karen (Russ); his beloved grandchildren: Alex, Haley, Zachary, Josh, Lucas and Ryan. Gerry is also survived by his mother, Edna Killen; sister, Judy Bird (Brian) and mother–in-law, Lillian Long. Gerry will also be deeply missed by numerous family and many friends. A great man that will live forever in our hearts.

 

He was predeceased by his father, George Killen and siblings: Carolyn Godfredson, Robert (Bob) Killen and his father-in-law, Ronald Long.

 

Gerry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on May 12, 1951. He met the love of his life, Valerie and they married on April 17, 1971 at St. Edwards Parish. Gerry and Valerie were transferred to Swan Hills, Alberta in 1975 where he worked for Imperial Oil, Judy Creek. Yearning to leave the “big city excitement” of Swan Hills behind, for a small-town life, they moved to Whitecourt in 1981.While in Whitecourt, Gerry had a passion to volunteer with groups such as Associated Ambulance and Santa’s Anonymous. He took great pride in giving back to his community. Gerry and Valerie settled in St. Albert, Alberta in 1998.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Edmonton Autism Society or charity of one’s choice.

 

Our family would like to thank the emergency team at the Sturgeon hospital in St. Albert for their amazing, undivided care and compassion through this difficult time.
