1932 – 2019

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Gordon McKenzie Miller of St. Albert on July 10, 2019, at the age of 87 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 64 years, Florence; his children: Sherry Miller and Greg (Kerry) Miller; his 5 grandchildren: Shanda, Carlyn, McKenzie, Katie and Hawley; and his siblings: Robert (Betty) Miller and Barbara Biles.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Sheila Lea and Jim Miller; and his parents, Robert Miller and Louise Newsom.

Born in Bashaw, Gordon and Florence called St. Albert home for some 58 years. A devoted educator, he started with Edmonton public schools before becoming Vice Principal, then Principal, at Sir George Simpson School. After earning his Masters degree he returned to Edmonton Public in leadership roles, concluding as Principal at MacDougall School. Before retiring, he served as a leadership consultant, helping education administrators across the city. In retirement he sought new challenges and twice was elected School Trustee in St. Albert.

In his spare time he was a meticulous craftsman and builder of sailboats, canoes, cribs, musical instruments and furniture. He delighted in making jewellery and toys for family and friends. He loved music, and in recent years Gord and Flo made regular visits to lead sing-a-longs at St. Albert’s local seniors’ homes, something that gave him great joy, and which he proudly referred to as his “gigs”. The cabin he built at Pelican Point was a very special place for him, the site of many gatherings of his treasured extended family and friends, of which he was so very proud.

He will be profoundly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Connelly-McKinley, St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, AB. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the St. Albert Inn, 156 St. Albert Trail. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, kindly send a Memorial Donation to the charity of your choice.
