Krista Hunt of Edmonton, Alberta passed away peacefully at her retirement residence in Calgary, Alberta at 71 years of age.

Krista is survived by her son, Jason Hunt (Cindy) of St. Albert; her daughter, Kari Bernhardt (Corey Higham) of Calgary; her grandchildren, Benjamin Bernhardt, Madeleine & James Hunt and Cole & Lauren Higham; as well as her former spouse, John Hunt of Calgary. Krista is predeceased by her mother, Margrethe Christensen Steffensen (1956); stepmother, Annie Hansen Hekob Steffensen (1993); father, Aksel Steffensen (2005), as well as her stepbrother, Alfred Hekob.

Krista and her older brother, Henning Steffensen were born in Gording, Denmark. Aksel & Margrethe Steffensen journeyed to Canada in 1951 and settled in Lacombe, Alberta. They homesteaded together until cancer took her mother, Margrethe. Aksel remarried to widowed Annie Hansen Hekob. With their union, Krista & Henning gained many stepsiblings and enjoyed a large rural family life. She leaves behind Mary Anne Hekob Watt, Donald Hekob, & Sharon Gauthier, as well as many nieces and nephews. There were many good times on the farm & she remembered them fondly. There were also hard times and these all shaped her into the hardworking person she was. She had a lifelong love of horses and prairie life.

Krista was a kind & strong woman. She was a devoted mother and stayed home for the children’s early years. Later she returned to work and had a 30 -year career at Co-Operators Insurance. There she made many great friends and enjoyed out of office socializing and movies with her girlfriends. Krista enjoyed travelling and was able to enjoy some Vegas getaways, Caribbean & Panama Canal cruises with her friend Ron Billig. With his passing, Krista turned her focus to spending more time with her grandchildren. She loved watching them enjoy their sports and was a great cheerleader. She loved a Teen Burger, fries and gravy, pressing her luck at the casino and watching Hallmark movies or anything with Tom Selleck. She will be missed.

As per Krista’s wishes, a small Graveside Service will take place at a later date in Lacombe, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Krista’s memory to either the Alberta Cancer Foundation (www.albertacancer.ca) or the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca).
