Huberdeau, Margaret obit edit

1927-2019

On the morning of July 25, 2019, Margaret Huberdeau passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Citadel Care Facility in St. Albert, Alberta.

She will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her daughters, Ysanne, and Fiona (Graham); grandchildren, Abigael, Gordon, and Cameron; sisters-in-law, Yvonne, Josephine, and Joan; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Huberdeau; parents, James and Elizabeth Cunningham; brother, Bill; and sister, Elizabeth.

Margaret was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. She completed her education as well as her nursing training in Scotland, graduating from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, in 1951. She completed certification in public health nursing and midwifery. After briefly working in Scotland and Denmark, adventure beckoned, and she set her sights on Canada. Margaret initially arrived in Toronto, then Calgary, and latterly landed in the frozen Alberta north in 1961. She worked as a “nurse in charge” at the Habay Nursing Station. Habay was where “that do-gooder-nurse” met the scruffy forest ranger bachelor, and the rest is history. Margaret and Lawrence married in September 1962. She practiced nursing in a variety of fields throughout Alberta (Lamont, Edmonton, Hinton, Fort Vermilion, High Level, Grande Prairie); her last post was with Homecare in Lac La Biche. Margaret and Larry retired to St. Albert and enjoyed several years of travelling. She enjoyed reading, volunteering within her community, and entertaining her grandchildren before health concerns slowed her down. Margaret moved from her home to the Citadel Care Facility in 2011, where her daughters visited and cared for her daily.

Margaret’s family wish to thank Dr. James Bell for his years of dedicated care, and the staff of the Citadel Care Facility for their care and support during the past 8 years.

As per Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
