Leona Martineau passed away peacefully on August 5, 2020 at the age of 82 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michelle (Sheldon), Carmaine (Grant) and Bob; grandchildren, Ryan, Lewis and Robin; siblings, Ralph, Elza, and Philip (Vivian); in-laws, Arlene, Marylyn, and Alice, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, co-workers, and dear friends.
Leona was predeceased by her parents, Zenon and Aurelie St. Jean; husband, Arthur; brothers, Leonard (Lorraine), Norman, Bert, Don, Gerry (Joyce), Maurice, and sister, Lorraine (Don); as well as in-laws, Rita and Graham.
Leona was born into a large, loving family in Legal, Alberta. Once married, she moved to St. Albert with Arthur, where they raised their family. They often traveled back to Legal for great family celebrations full of laughter, good food, and music. She always remained close to her siblings.
Leona’s vibrant, energetic personality and musical ability served her well throughout her long, fulfilling career in recreation at the Youville Home. Her true passion was music and she was part of many bands and performances over the years; friends often referring to her as “Mama Guitar”. She also bowled, curled, and devoted countless hours as a volunteer, including being a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She adored her grandchildren and treasured time spent with them. Her amazing smile and wonderful sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Venta Care Centre. We will forever be grateful for your exceptional support and care, ensuring that our mother was treated with the utmost compassion and dignity. We especially couldn’t have asked for a better stand in “family” by our side during the time when visits were restricted.
