1935 - 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Rene Maurier on December 8th, 2021, at the age of 86, with his devoted wife at his side at the Palm Creek RV Resort at Casa Grande, Arizona.

Beloved husband of 63 years to his wife Anita (Ouimet). Loving father to his three children Vivian (Ken) Richter, Mark (Stacy) Maurier, Karen (Donald) Shrum. Rene was an extraordinary grandfather to his grandchildren, Christopher (Miki) Richter, Candace (Evan) Truman, Tia (Joey) Caldaralo, Ty (Amanda) Shrum, Trinity Maurier, Brooke Maurier; and greatgrandchildren Jackson & Alexis Truman, Hana & Emma Richter. He will lovingly be remembered by his siblings Lucienne Epp, Claude (Joanne) Maurier, Madeleine Maurier, Laurent (Roelle) Maurier. His parents, Omer & Simone Maurier, and his brother, Roland (Teresa) Maurier, predeceased him.

On October 16th, 1935, Rene was born on the Maurier family farm west of Legal, Alberta. Rene & Anita married in 1958 and later set up their farm on Busby Road, which eventually led Rene to be the owner-operator of Rene’s Vacuum Service Ltd. Throughout his career, he was able to count on the solid support of Anita. Theirs was an equal partnership based on hard work, love and respect. Rene was well known for continually improving all machinery, buildings, and vehicles that he owned. He engineered and remodelled things that no one could imagine - from making a barn floor into a backyard waterfall or using heavy-duty hydro-vac pumps as plant holders. He had the vision to get it done. A lifelong resident of Legal, Rene participated in many organizations, supported local community events and was always willing to help his friends & neighbours.

Rene kept busy on his beloved land and acreage in retirement with machinery, trucks, and hydraulics filling his day with remodelling projects to complete.  As he grew older, Rene told everyone that he never wanted to see snow ever again, and he and Anita opted to winter in Arizona for over 25 years. The pandemic forced Rene to endure one last Canadian winter, all the while he longed to return to his Arizona oasis, where he could fulfill his passions in life for socializing, meeting new friends, and playing shuffleboard.

Rene will be fondly remembered for his big smile, hearty laugh, contagious personality and will be dearly missed by all. Funeral arrangements will be held in the spring of 2022 in Legal, Alberta.
