Passed after a long battle with dementia and paralysis. He passed away on his favourite day of the week (Sunday), his favourite time of the year (Thanksgiving) and just days after his 83rd birthday.

 

Douwe was born October 4, 1939 in Utrecht, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada with his mother and father and two siblings in 1951. Douwe met his wife, Joan Postma, at a Young People's rally in Edmonton and they married April 15, 1966. They lived their whole married life together in Edmonton sharing their faith and raising their 8 children whom they adored.

 

Douwe is predeceased by his wife, Joan Postma (November 2017) and his son, Stanley Dean Postma (August 1999). Douwe leaves behind his 7 children: Sandra (Martin) VanHornsveld, Diana (Rick) Nelson, Jeff (Pamela) Postma, Juanita (Shaun) Scott, Carolyn (Darcy) Doorten, Gloriana (Jeremy) Feddema and Mark (Jennifer) Postma as well as 22 grandchildren (& 7 spouses or partners) and 9 great-grandchildren and counting who were his pride and joy.

 

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 14th 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Connelly-McKinley Ltd. at 10011-114 Street, Edmonton, AB.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 15th 2022 at 1:00 PM at Providence Canadian Reformed Church, 12905 - 122 Ave., Edmonton, AB.

 

A private interment (family only) will be held Saturday, October 15th 2022.

 

The family would especially like to thank Lorene Averes for her loving care she gave to our dad (& grandpa) during his stay at the Youville Home. We would also like to thank the nurses and staff at the St. Albert Youville Home for the wonderful care they provided to Douwe and his family.
