With deep sorrow in our hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Stanley Peter Kolomyjec, beloved husband, father and grandfather on October 21, 2019.
Stan is survived by his loving wife Olga of 58 years, daughters Janice Pyle, Christine Kolomyjec, and Sue Kolomyjec (Mark Scheffer). He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his grandchildren Karena, Stephen, and Andrea Pyle; Samantha and Luke Wiggins; and Graeme and Peter Scheffer. Stan also leaves behind many relatives and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Paul and his older brother Morley.
He attended the University of Alberta graduating with a BSc in Civil Engineering in 1960. In 1961 he married his sweetheart Olga and they began their life together in Gimli, Manitoba where Stan was posted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He left the Air Force after completing his last posting in Ramore, Ontario. Stan and Olga returned to Alberta and settled in St. Albert in 1965 where they raised their three daughters.
He retired as the Regional Manager, Transportation, Architectural & Engineering Services in May 1995 after a long and successful career in public service. He enjoyed his first year of retirement playing Slo-Pitch, Curling, Hockey and Golf. An entrepreneur at heart, retirement was brief. He started a small airport engineering business, which allowed him to combine his passion for flying with his dream of owning a business; which he did successfully for over 20 years.
Stan will be remembered for his love of his family, his caring heart and generous nature, and his positive outlook on life.
The family would like to extend a sincere Thank You to: The Pain and Symptom Clinic at The Cross Cancer Institute, his homecare nurse Crystal Hansen and the nursing staff from the North Homecare Office. Also, to the caring and supportive nurses and doctors at Sturgeon Community Hospital. A special thanks as well to the EMT’s and Treat in Place team.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 9th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club, 25114 Sturgeon Road, Sturgeon County, Alberta.
