LETTER: Does pickleball decision set a precedent?

"This gives me hope that, now that a precedent has been set, the sound issues that disturb myself and my neighbours will be addressed in the same manner."
letter-sta

I am so happy to hear that the funds for the pickleball sound barriers have been approved. This gives me hope that, now that a precedent has been set, the sound issues that disturb myself and my neighbours will be addressed in the same manner. These sounds include sharp, high pitched whines. Low pitched incessant staccato thumps. Whizzing, whirling, buzzing hisses. Loud metallic pings that are startling. Screams that echo down the fence line usually followed by adolescent swearing and more screams, shouts and laughter.

I cannot open my windows in the spring, summer or fall. I had to purchase noise cancelling equipment so that I can spend time in my backyard. The only peace I get year-round is in the winter when the latter of the noises only happens twice a day. Please, immediately start the process to build a soundproof barrier between my fence line and the school and public park behind my house. I am so traumatized from the constant sound of kids playing, yelling, screaming, swearing.

The sound of baseball bats hitting the balls startles me every time I hear that loud echoing ping of a metal ball bat succeeding in its job. Tired of the drones buzzing over head, the remote controller planes whizzing around behind my house. If not a sound barrier wall, maybe the city could compensate those of us that knew there would be outdoor activity and sounds and now regret moving here because those sounds have given some of us PTSD. I spent $200 on that water fountain.
