LETTER: Don't the best leaders lead by example?

"I’m sure that media photographers would be pleased to document your working conditions so Albertans can feel at ease with your experiment."

Currently it is not safe for MLA offices to open, Minister Lagrange hosts Zoom meetings and Dr. Hinshaw’s updates are closed to the media. Yet students in Alberta schools are seated closer than two metres apart, facing forward, without masks.

Perhaps the Minister and Dr. Hinshaw are correct? But before we continue to test this theory on Alberta children and educators, we need another pilot project! Premier Kenney and his caucus colleagues could spend their entire workday together in the same room, less than two metres apart, facing forward, without masks, with as little movement as possible. And, as teachers must, the Premier must move among these unmasked colleagues and speak with them to monitor their progress and behaviour.

Dr. Hinshaw and Minister Lagrange’s briefings could mirror an Alberta classroom with 30 members of the media seated less than two metres apart, facing forward, without masks. Any of Alberta’s various unelected panels could also mirror Alberta’s classrooms.

Don’t the best leaders lead by example? I’m sure that media photographers would be pleased to document your working conditions so Albertans can feel at ease with your experiment.

Joan Tod, St. Albert
