LETTER: Sturgeon Road speed should be reduced, not increased

"This is a major road traffic crossing to get to the river valley, walking trails and the St. Albert Mall."

I am writing in response to a proposed speed increase on Sturgeon Road. I strongly oppose this; in fact, it should be lowered to 40 km/h from St. Albert Trail to Sir Winston Churchill.

This is a major road traffic crossing to get to the river valley, walking trails and the St. Albert Mall. Many, many families with buggies, children and pets use this road at all times of the day. Coun. Brodhead says speeds should more consistent – no, they need to be appropriate for the area. What will a driver gain by increasing the speed? Forty-five seconds? Sixty seconds? Let's just slow down.

There are several blind curves on this stretch of road and crazy drivers will now be thinking they have a 'grace' of a few kms and soon be speeding up to who knows what.
