LETTER: Thank you to St. Albert RCMP

letter-sta

Dear members of the St. Albert RCMP:

On behalf of the citizens of St. Albert, we would like to express our sincere appreciation and extend our deep gratitude for your extraordinary service during this COVID-19 public health crisis. We are acutely aware of the daily sacrifices you make to keep our families, businesses and community safe during this rapidly evolving crisis.

We know this is not the first time that you have put your health and safety at risk to protect our community. This is part of the daily demands of your vocation, which we too often take for granted, even in the best of times.

These are extraordinary times with realities and demands changing almost daily. We are asking you to leave your families to protect ours. The sacrifices you are making do not go unnoticed, whether you are working on the front line, at the detachment or in support services. In times like these, our society is only as strong as those who support, care for and protect us all.

This is a new and unknown experience for us all. The threat that we face is invisible and can impact any of us regardless of where we live, who we are, or whom we love. The calm, thoughtful, and strategic leadership that you have shown gives us faith that we will all make it through this crisis, and we will emerge stronger and more united as a community than ever before.

Please remember to take care of yourselves as you take care of and protect others. We need you safe and healthy as you return home to your families.

We are all in this fight together. We stand beside you. We support you. Most importantly, we thank you for protecting us and keeping us safe.

There is an old expression, which states: “The police are the community and the community is the police.” This has never been more true than now. We each have an important role to play. Whether that is staying at home to protect ourselves and others, or patrolling the streets to keep our community safe. Together, we will get through this crisis and we will all continue to be proud to call St. Albert home.

Dr. Kristopher Wells, Chair

On Behalf of the St. Albert Policing Committee
