LETTER: Why take out your frustration on people who are just doing their jobs?

"I am appalled at the amount of people who feel it is okay to verbally abuse someone they have never met."

Where to start. I am appalled at the amount of people who feel it is okay to verbally abuse someone they have never met (it's not okay no matter what).

My daughter is an essential worker at a grocery chain. She is only 24 years old. She has asked people to please wait their turn putting groceries on the belt until she can wipe it down. She has been called a f---ing b----, she has had a 54-year-old woman stick her tongue out at her. My daughter asked her if she was 12 and she said "no I'm 54", something to be proud of. This happens daily, more than once a day to all of the workers.

People, please understand that they do not make these policies and rules. They are trying to keep you, their customers and themselves safe. Don't believe in COVID-19? Fine, but why oh why are you taking it out on a young woman trying to do her job? You have no idea the mental stress you are putting on these poor workers.

My daughter is not a b----, she is not stupid or retarded (things she's been called). She's a young Canadian at her second job in life trying to earn a living and you are making it unbearable. She has cried at work; she has cried at home. If that was your objective, then job well done. Good on you, hope you're proud of yourself.

From an angry mom,

Shelley Cardinal, St. Albert
