Bike racks benefit commuters

This is in response to Lexi Pendzich's letter to the editor in the Wednesday, May 13 edition of the St. Albert Gazette. I fully agree. Bike racks should be put on all St. Albert Transit (StAT) buses.

I fully agree. Bike racks should be put on all St. Albert Transit (StAT) buses. Here in Kamloops where I live all transit buses and several Handi-Dart buses have them. They have proved extremely popular here. I myself have made use of them on many occasions.

While St. Albert is fairly flat (I'm a former resident of the city myself and really miss the pathway system), I feel that bike racks would augment this system nicely. The biggest benefit would be to those who commute to Edmonton.

Here in Kamloops, bikes are carried at no extra cost. All one has to do is remind the driver that you need to get your bike. Even when I lived in the City of North Vancouver and rode the passenger ferry (Sea Bus) across Burrard Inlet, bikes are carried at no extra cost. While the racks did cost money to add to the buses here, the results were immediate. There was an increase in ridership and more people chose to cycle to work.

I would like to encourage the city to seriously consider adding the rack to the buses.
