READERS CHOICE - Atlantic Kitchen

Wanda and Mike Curtis, owners of The Atlantic Kitchen, are celebrating their Reader’s Choice Award in the category of Best Seafood Restaurant in St. Albert. This is the second consecutive year they have earned this honour – which is special considering the St. Albert location is just two years old.

“We also have a restaurant in Fort Saskatchewan that has been in operation for about 19 years,” Wanda explains. “That location got very busy with people coming from Edmonton and St. Albert, so we decided to open a second restaurant.”

The magnetic draw of the Atlantic Kitchen is the food and the atmosphere. This is good, old fashioned, home cooking at its finest. The chefs avoid processed foods, choosing instead to make as much as possible from scratch. Home made desserts infused with the secrets only hands-on chefs know, hand cut fries that crunch on the outside and are pillowy soft on the inside, tender roasts cooked up low and slow, fresh soup made daily – these are just some of the menu items that keep the tables busy. And the fish? It’s the real star. The fish is premium quality. As Wanda says, “no tail ends!” It’s firm and fresh and cooked to perfection, drawing in locals and tourists who can’t wait to indulge in fish and chips, fish cakes, cod or halibut bites, and more.

Yet it’s not just the food that has made The Atlantic Kitchen a fan favourite. Wanda explains, “We are not a chain or franchise, so we don’t operate like a chain or franchise. Our restaurant is family based and comfortable. It’s where you come to have a great meal, enjoy some laughs, hang out with friends, or spend time savouring a home cooked meal or delicious coffee as you grab a few moments to yourself. Eating here is like eating around the kitchen table. You feel right at home.”

Also making East Coast transplants right at home is the retail corner that is stocked with food and products from the Atlantic provinces.

“A lot of people come in to buy things they can’t get anywhere else,” Wanda smiles.

The Atlantic Kitchen is proud to give back to the community and thanks St. Albert and area for welcoming their restaurant with open arms (and open stomachs!). The owners also thank their hardworking staff that help make the restaurant a success.
