Bulldogs undefeated

The seventh win without a loss this season for the Bellerose Bulldogs was also the fourth in a row in metro Edmonton division two women’s basketball.

Bench players contributed half the team’s points in Wednesday’s 66-58 victory over the Edmonton Christian Lions (2-2) at Bellerose.

The Bulldogs were led by Aneilia Ayotte’s 12 points while Zoe Zurowski and Erin Burch scored eight apiece, Morgan Knisely added a pair of three-pointers and Kirsten Reid was credited with six assists.

The Bulldogs, winners of the Rise Up tournament at Sturgeon Composite High School prior to the division two regular season, started off the week with Monday’s 53-52 squeaker against the host J. Percy Page Panthers (1-2).

Jordana Rivet, the Rise Up tournament MVP, tossed in a team-high 13 points, Ayotte sank 12 and Zurowski added 10.

The Bulldogs have six players back from the 2019 division three championship team that finished 12-2.

The Bulldogs resume league play with an away game Jan. 6 against the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds (2-2) at 5:30 p.m.

PK tournament

The draw is finalized for the Paul Kane Invitational women’s basketball tournament Jan. 10-11.

The Paul Kane Blues host the O’Leary Spartans, Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds, Bowness Trojans of Calgary, Foothills Falcons of Okotoks, Medicine Hat Kwahommies, Catholic Central Cougars of Lethbridge and St. Mary’s Saints of Calgary.

The tournament opener for Paul Kane is 11 a.m. Jan. 10 against O’Leary.

Paul Kane and O’Leary are 1-1 in the metro Edmonton division one league.

Paul Kane is 5-3 overall after Wednesday’s 60-41 decision against the St. Peter the Apostle Spartans (0-2) of Spruce Grove.

The next division one game is Jan. 8 against the Salisbury Sabres (3-0) at 6:30 p.m. in Sherwood Park.

Division two men

The Paul Kane Blues enter the Christmas break undefeated in the metro Edmonton division two men’s basketball league.

Paul Kane, Strathcona Christian Academy Eagles of Sherwood Park and J. Percy Page Panthers share top spot at 3-0.

The last win for Paul Kane was 74-58 over the host M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs (2-1) Wednesday.

Paul Kane’s 7-5 overall record includes the 1-2 result as the seventh-place team at the 27th annual Totem Hoop Classic at Ross Sheppard High School.

The 2019 division two finalists tip off the new year at home Jan. 6 against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the St. Albert Skyhawks (1-2) and Bellerose Bulldogs (3-0) closed out their December division two schedules with losses. The Skyhawks fell 76-56 to the Eagles at home Monday and Bellerose dropped a 103-86 road decision to the Millwoods Christian Royals (1-2) Wednesday.

Both teams have away games scheduled Jan. 6 as Bellerose plays the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (1-3) at 5 p.m. and the Skyhawks take on the Archbishop MacDonald Marauders (0-3) at 6:30 p.m.

On Jan. 8, Bellerose hosts the Skyhawks at 5 p.m.

In the play-in ability round robin for division two status, the Skyhawks defeated Bellerose 65-62 Dec. 3 at the SkyDome.
