Skyhawks soaring

The St. Albert Skyhawks are piling up the wins as the defending metro Edmonton division one and 4A provincial champions.

Teå DeMong tacked up 20 points, Kamryn DeKlerk chipped in with 14 and Mimi Sigue added 13.

DeMong’s four three-pointers and 22 points overall earned her player of the game honours against Bowness. Palmer contributed 21 points and Maty Drefs had 10.

The Skyhawks out-scored Semiahmoo 26-18 in the fourth quarter as DeMong scored 10 of her 19 points in the last 10 minutes as player of the game.

The halftime score was 33-31 Semiahmoo.

Sigue sank 17 points and DeKlerk’s 16 points included two three-pointers in the first quarter.

Today at 5:30 p.m. the Skyhawks play the St. Francis Xavier Rams (3-0) at the SkyDome.

Bulldogs host two

The Bellerose Bulldogs host a doubleheader today in metro Edmonton basketball.

The rivalry game between the Bulldogs (1-3) and St. Albert Skyhawks (2-2) in the division two men’s league tips off at 5 p.m.

Last month at the SkyDome, the Skyhawks defeated the Bulldogs 65-62 in the play-in ability round robin for division two status.

Both teams are coming off road wins Monday of 65-62 for the Bulldogs against the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (1-4) and 88-78 for the Skyhawks against the Archbishop MacDonald Marauders (0-4).

The division two women’s match between the Bulldogs (5-0) and Beaumont Bandits (2-3) starts at 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs are 8-0 overall after Monday’s 62-33 rout of the host Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds (2-3) in league play.

Kirsten Reid scored a team-high 12 points and had three steals, Ella Burch recorded 10 points and eight rebounds and Jordana Rivet added nine points and four steals for last year’s 12-2 division three champions.
